American Skeet
American Skeet is a popular clay target shooting discipline where shooters aim to break clay targets launched from two machines—one from high and one from low positions—across a semi-circular shooting layout.
Down-the-Line Trap
A beginner-friendly clay shooting discipline where targets are launched away from the shooter in a predictable pattern.
Olympic Skeet (ISSF)
An Olympic discipline where shooters target clay discs launched from high and low machines in random order. The sport tests both speed and precision, making it a fast-paced challenge in international shooting competitions.
Olympic Trap (ISSF)
An intensely challenging international discipline featuring 15 randomly selected target paths launched at high speeds from underground bunkers.
Universal Trench
Universal Trench is a popular choice among shooters who enjoy variety and challenge, and it serves as a great training ground for those looking to progress into higher-level trap disciplines.

FAQs
-
No firearms licence? No problem. When you book a Come & Try experience at the club, all coaching, equipment, and supervision are provided—making it safe, easy, and accessible for first-time participants.
-
In Queensland, children as young as 11 years old can participate in clay target shooting under appropriate supervision. Beyond promoting a healthy, active lifestyle, the sport instils valuable life skills such as discipline, focus, and—most importantly—respect for firearms. At Brisbane Gun Club, our experienced instructors have guided many young participants and are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and encouraging learning environment.
-
All unlicensed participants at Brisbane Gun Club must present valid photo identification on arrival. Accepted forms include a current driver’s licence, passport, or proof of age card.
For safety and comfort, all participants must wear closed-in shoes. Sleeveless shirts (such as singlets) are not permitted on the range.
As clay target shooting is an outdoor sport, we recommend bringing a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to ensure you stay sun-safe during your visit.
-
When you arrive at Brisbane Gun Club, head to the clubhouse where you’ll be welcomed by one of our friendly staff or volunteers. You’ll be asked a few quick questions and required to sign the range register before your session begins.
From there, you’ll meet your instructors outside, where they’ll introduce you to the fundamentals of clay target shooting. Safety is our top priority, and our qualified instructors will ensure you’re confident in the safe handling and use of a shotgun before any shooting begins.
Once the briefing is complete, it’s time for the fun to start!
Your personal instructor will guide you step-by-step through calling for and shooting your very first clay target. Simply say “pull” and a target will be launched—then it’s your moment to shine. Enjoy the experience, and good luck!
-
Brisbane Gun Club offers a comprehensive introductory package for new and inexperienced shooters.
